The BEACH!!

Our boys have never been to the beach! During this road trip it was a must to play in the Atlantic Ocean and we were excited. We camped at Cape Henlopen State Park for 3 nights. The campsite had bathrooms with showers, water on the camp sites and plenty of trees for shade. This was necessary as it was HOT HOT HOT! We hit high 90s during the day and high 80s at night. It made for a unique experience, one we do not experience EVER in Alaska. We drank a lot of water and bought a small tent fan. To attempt to keep cool.

Thursday morning we were at the beach bright and early. I think we got there around 9am. It was already incredible hot! We caked the SPF 60 sun screen on ALL of us and did this every 1 1/2 to 2 hours. Us Alaskan folk still burnt! Expect Josiah, that kid is brown. Not sure where he got that from. We bought SPF 80 that night.

We also may have stayed out there too long. We did not pack up and head back until 3pm or so. But we had so much fun!!!!!!

daddy put his feet in the water, he hated it!
This was about the only sun Caleb saw. I was so nervous to have the sun touch him. He sat under our beach umbrella and napped off and on.

The boys spent all day either jumping waves or building sand castles!

The waves were not good body surfing waves but Dave tried his best!

JJ loved the sand!

After we left the beach we head down to Ocean city to see the board walk. It finally cooled of to low 80s but it felt bearable after the high 90s.

For Dinner I wanted to try the local famous crab I heard about! So we stopped in at Higgins Crab House. I had Crab, Dave had Shrimp and ribs, JJ ordered popcorn shrimp and Benn had grilled cheese. When we eat out we do it family style, it is a fun way to try new and fun things so we all had a little bit of everything.

Okay, Our VAN! The AC broke in Canada and was fixed in Wichita. This time the fans broke. No fans to cool the engine, van over heats, not good! To make matters worse the van only over heated with the AC was on. No AC in 90 degree weather sucks. Did I mention the passenger window does not work unless forced down. NOT FUN! We were hot. We called a few places and "The Garage" was the only place that could see us right away. Rob, the owner, said he could look at it after lunch and we were thrilled!!! So we went shopping at the outlet mall, in the AC, until then.

They got our van in and were able to fix it!! They even let us hang out in the office while we waited. It is a family owned business and their two younger kids were there. I think my boys had a great time chatting with them; so we hung out until the van was ready and had a wonderful time getting to know various people who work at The Garage! :) Recommended if you happen to break down while in Rehoboth Beach.
After our wonderful AC was fixed we headed down to the Rehoboth Beach Board walked. We played in the "Fun Land" and ate some famous french fries at Thrashers French Fries! :)
FUN FACT: Do you know that people eat vinegar on their french fries??? It is okay. . . :}

The beach is a new favorite place for us!
We spent 2 whole days down at the beach and it is quite possible that was not enough! We had a wonderful time!

  1. Please convince Steve we need to live near the beach. I far prefer it to anything else, and am amazingly jealous of all the hot weather you've been "enjoying."
