Anchorage to Fairbanks

Good Bye Anchorage! We are ready to go!

Day 1
12:36pm Anchorage to Fairbanks March 29,2011. We left Anchorage early in the afternoon with a loaded Van full of kids, toys, food, dog and so much more.  We have so many stories to listen to on CD, we were excited to begin listening to them; first up was Adventures in Odyssey.  As we drove out of town we had to drive by our home we sold in December to say good bye. BYE HOUSE! BYE ANCHORAGE! BYE FRIENDS AND FAMILY! WE LOVE YOU!

We barely made it to Wasilla and Benn asked: “How much farther to Homer?” I said: “Honey, we are not going to Homer. We are going to Fairbanks, or as our friends, the Slamas, call it. . .Deadbanks!! HA!
1:23pm. Benn: HOW LONG
Daddy: NINE DAYS
Benn: Alaska is big J
For all of you “Nenana Ice classic” guessers;  we drove by the famous tower sitting up on the ice. No signs of it falling through just yet.  It was neat to see.
I must say the kiddos did great! We stopped once in Cantwell for an hour long break and they did not start to get antsy until about 40 mins from Fairbanks. Benn started singing Christmas carols just to settle everyone down. A tune of “We wish you a merry Christmas” was all we needed.
We arrived in Fairbanks at about 7pm. We checked into our hotel, Pikes Lodge, for a quick regroup and then we met with my friend Erin and her sweet girl Audrey for dinner at “Big Daddys” this is where Guy Fieri from “Diners, Drive-ins and Dives” had a show. It was great BBQ with great company.
Pikes Lodge was a comfortable Alaskan atmosphere, with reasonable prices, fresh cookies and free ice cream it was an A+ for our little clan.
It was a late night, but not to bad.

Kenai

March 17th-25th
Before we left on our summer-long road trip we decided to spend a week in Kenai with my family and friends! We took the boys swimming, snow machining and sledding. It was a bitter sweet week with good times and good byes.
Bennjamin had his first injury during out stay down in Kenai. He was being a boy and fell and banged his knee. It swelled up to the size of a baseball. I took him to the ER hoping his knee cap was still in place. Good news!! It was! However, we decided to postpone our trip one day to get a second option at our pediatrician.
March 25th-29th We spent the remainder of our days in Anchorage with my cousins and then with friends. Benn's knee is okay and we will continue with our trip on Tuesday March 29th.
Thank you to everyone! You have all made our last days in Alaska wonderful! We love and will miss you all!
