We were up and out by 11am with intentions to drive to Vancouver the shorter way through Hope. So this day of driving should have only been 7 hours at 341 miles. At last min we decided to take the scenic route. Now the scenic route down through Whistle is actually shorter at 324 miles. But shorter is just not the case! The roads were long, winding, up and down! It was a crazy mess! But absolutely worth it!
We stop for lunch at Lilloet Lakes. It was wonderfully warm and sunny!! We hiked down to the lake so the older boys could throw rocks and sticks into the water. We had a wonderful time, even after a hug flying ant landed on me. Yes, for all who know me. . I freaked out.
Benn: "This is awesome that God can create such awesome things!!!", "it is beautiful!!!", "Dad, look at the HUGE mountains!!"
It was absolutely wonderful to be in the sun. Up to this point our trip had been very cold. The boys were excited to be able to run and play!
Snow, only 45 mins from where we had just played in the sunshine and grass |
Have you ever heard of a runaway ramp before. I had not until right before our trip down the ALCAN and then to my surprise, we almost had to use one!! The roads were so incredible steep that we over heated our brakes trying to get down them.
The runaway lane, we almost used |
Our brakes smoking |

We arrived in Vancouver at mid-night and dozed off for a wonderful nights sleep!
