Day 3
Burnt Paw Cabins Tok, AK |
Tok, Alaska-across the border to Whitehorse. about 400 miles.
It is wonderful driving the ALCAN in the off season! The sweet owner asked us what time we would be to breakfast and it was hot and fresh waiting for us the next morning. She sat and chatted with us while we ate and then bid us farewell as we headed off to our next destination. The weather has been beautiful!! We have studs on our tires but up to this point we have not needed them. Oh well, better safe then sorry RIGHT?
Today we saw CARIBOU! The boys thought it was great! There were tons of them all over the road. They look like clumsy creatures but I am sure that is not the case.
We crossed the border at 11:13am March 31, 2011! Immediately the road sucked and we jumped ahead one hour. So really we crossed the border at 12:13pm. The roads did straighten up after Destruction bay. (Yes, this is a town in the Yukon!)
Crossing the border! |
We drove for a while before we actually got to customs, but the weather was still gorgeous so we did not mind. We sat at customs for a while waiting for someone to come and talk to us. It was the oddest thing, he asked us tons of questions either like he was bored or getting to know us. Probably both. He appeared to be the only one working at the time of our arrival and he also has to know us and what business we have crossing into his country.
Miles post 1670 We see our first Trooper (Royal Canadian Mounted Police) We have not seen one since Anchorage. Hilarious!
I have begun to realize that my soul purpose is to make food while on the road and clean up the boys area at each rest stop. If I do not do this I am sure we will loose each and every bit of entertainment in the black hole that is our van.
