Saying good-bye |
We headed out from Northfield to meet our good friends in Lancaster, PA. They were having a family vacation and we were excited to join them for a couple days.
We arrived in Lancaster a day before them and used that time to shop at Ten Thousand Villages. Whew, not a good store for me! :) Click and check it out I think anyone could appreciate this shopping experience.
We camped right in the heart of Amish Country in the cute little White Oak Campground. At night the stars were spectacular and the sounds of horses hoofs could be heard clapping on the road pulling their buggies around. I loved everything about this cute little country!!
When we pulled into where the Warren's were staying the squeals from JJ and Benn were incredible when they saw Michael and Wyatt standing in the parking lot to greet us! The boys jumped out of the car and wasted no time laughing and squealing with delight sharing the same inside jokes from Alaska. They kept saying: "Remember this?" Over and Over again!
I had been looking forward to authentic Amish cooking. We tried two different restaurants and both were fantastic. Amish cooking is your typical down home cooking. Chicken Pot Pie, Pot Roast, Ham Ball, Shoo Fly Pie, Whoopee pie and so much more! We ate at the Hershey Farm Restaurant the first night and Bird-in-Hand Restaurant for dinner the next night. Both had YUMMY traditional Dutch/Amish cuisine.
We all ventured out to Intercourse, PA. The place is one big tourist attraction, but we still had a great time. The boys played at a park and went to a petting zoo and had fun looking at all the cool stuff in all the shops. We walked down a ways to the Intercourse Pretzel Factory where Benn, Nolan, Michael and Dave all made their very own pretzels. I am not sure who had more fun. . .the little guys or the grown guys.
Tara and I took a buggy ride out to a real working Amish Farm. It was a wonderful, bumpy ride and the driver of the buggy gave us a cool little tour and shared interesting facts about what the Amish believe and how they work. The farm had a gift shop with locally made items where both Tara and I bought beautifully made quillows. (Quilt that folds into a pillow.)
While the women were away, the Daddies played at the pool with all 6 kiddos! They are awesome! The boys had fun splashing and racing across the kiddy pool continually choking on water. But they had FUN!
While playing at a park after dinner one night Bennjamin was accidentally elbowed in the nose and experienced his first bloody nose. I thought that piece of info was worth writing about.
Sharing meal time |
Then came the rough part, saying good bye to our dear friends. we spent two joy filled days with them and I don't think any of us were ready to say good bye. We had a great time and I look forward to the next time we can sit together at the dinner table and share in conversation and love!
